The 2011 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Champions Cup kicks off today, March 10th when Bermuda’s Dandy Town Hornets face Trinidad and Tobago’s Defence Force FC at 8pm tonight. The Bermudan's will be hoping to utilize their home advantage during this, their debut game at the tournament.

Also on tonight, lone Kittian team, Newtown United will face the other T&T based team, Caladonia AIA in St. Kitts & Nevis in a match which also kicks-off at 8pm.

Puerto Rico Islanders, the 2010 title holders, will begin their campaign in the second round. The tournament has switched to a straight knockout format, as opposed to the lengthy group stages which took up the first half of the competition last season. Organizers say the change in format will result in a more exciting tournament.

CFU General Secretarym Angenie Kanhai said today, “The environment in which we operate is fluid, we must do our best to ensure our competitions remain attractive and relevant to the public".

"Club football is a cardinal element of any development plan. The quality of football played at a club level is inextricably linked to our performance of our national teams. While the future cannot be predicted must ensure our path is concise and our teams are prepared to face any challenge. I am positive our national teams will yield the results of these changes in the foreseeable future.”
